As a Chilean exile who arrived in Canada sponsored by the United Nations in the late 70s, reflections on territoriality, hybrid identity and transculturation have been recurrent themes in my artistic research. During the MFA program, small-scale sculpture became symbolic markers for the intimacy of a personal redemptive territory made of repurposed shipping pallets. By working with recycled mutable materials in practice research-led at the “La Chapelle Woodshop” at the school, I have fashioned a poetic visual language to re-enchant the wound of exile.
